Kindred Home Support

Unlocking Benefits: How to Offset Your Home Safety & Concierge Costs

Kindred Home Support provides specialized, non-medical home safety audits, proactive maintenance, and everyday concierge logistics. While we are an independent service and do not bill health insurance companies, families frequently offset or cover their monthly subscription using two primary funding paths: Medicare Advantage Supplemental Allowances and Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits.

Option 1: Medicare Advantage Plans (Pre-Funded Debit Cards & Reimbursements)

Many Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans offer Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SSBCI) and independent-living allowances. These benefits provide members with quarterly or monthly funds designed specifically for environmental safety, fall prevention, chore relief, and everyday household support.

Path A: Point-of-sale supplemental cards (most common)

How it works
Your plan issues a pre-loaded benefit card (often managed by partners like NationsBenefits, InComm, or The Helper Bees).
The process
If your plan includes an allowance for home maintenance, fall prevention, or support services, our merchant systems are categorized to process qualified service categories directly at checkout.
What to do
Call the customer service number on the back of your card to verify whether your plan includes an allowance for "Home Modifications," "Safety Devices," or "Chore/Supportive Services."

Path B: Direct member reimbursement (paper or portal submission)

How it works
You pay your monthly Kindred retainer upfront with standard credit, debit, or ACH.
The process
We provide an itemized, two-part invoice separating technical safety checks (fall hazard audits, smoke detector tests, device mounting) from general concierge errands.
What to do
Download your plan's Direct Member Reimbursement (DMR) or Supplemental Claim Form. Attach our invoice and submit it through your member portal or by mail. If approved by your plan's supplemental guidelines, the carrier mails a reimbursement check directly to you.

We provide itemized receipts for every visit, structured so they line up with what health plans ask for on chore, home modification, and safety-device reimbursements.

Option 2: Veterans Affairs (VA Aid & Attendance Pension)

If you or your parent is a wartime veteran or surviving spouse, the VA Aid & Attendance program provides a significant monthly, tax-free cash pension intended to keep seniors safe in their own homes.

How it works

Unlike healthcare reimbursement, Aid & Attendance pays cash directly to the veteran or surviving spouse — often between $1,500 and $3,300+ each month depending on eligibility.

Because the money is deposited straight into your bank account, the VA does not dictate which vendors you hire. You can hire Kindred Home Support directly to oversee your property, run essential errands, and mitigate fall hazards.

Using Kindred to maximize or maintain your pension

  • Unreimbursed Medical Expenses (UME): To qualify for or maintain Aid & Attendance pension levels, the VA allows claimants to deduct recurring, out-of-pocket costs related to health, safety, and functional independence.

  • Monthly Expense Statements: Every month, Kindred provides an itemized statement detailing your environmental safety audits, hazard mitigations, and household support.

  • Filing with VA Form 21P-8416: Your accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO) or VA-accredited elder law attorney reports these regular out-of-pocket payments on VA Form 21P-8416 (Medical Expense Report) to reduce your countable income and maximize your cash benefit.

Important disclosure & guidelines

  • Independent operations: Kindred Home Support is a private, non-medical concierge and home safety company. We are not a home health agency, we do not provide hands-on personal care (ADL) services, and we do not submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, or private commercial insurers.

  • Eligibility varies: Coverage, pre-loaded flex allowances, and reimbursement determinations depend solely on your individual Medicare Advantage policy, carrier formulary, and VA pension status.

  • HSA/FSA submissions: Our itemized safety inspections and hazard installation services may also be submitted to Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) when accompanied by a physician's Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN).
